James shares his views on his Spiuk Dharma Cycle Helmet
I struck lucky, fourth time around, with the Spiuk Dharma cycle helmet. My three previous ones were good but this one has outclassed them all.
The fit, above all, is what I noticed first. It sits really low on my head and with the minimal but efficient padding the helmet holds firmly in place. This padding can be easily removed for washing and can also be replaced with a fly catcher/anti insect mesh that doubles as a warmer layer.
Its size adjuster is simple and effective and can be turned easily with one hand whilst on the move if necessary and it hasn’t broken or failed after two years of heavy use.
Another hugely noticeable benefit is the weight. Every aspect of the helmet is incredibly lightweight, down to the padding and straps. In fact it’s one of the lightest helmets that money can buy. My medium/large is just 246gms.
The venting is sublime. The 20 vents are huge and make a massive difference in allowing air flow to your head, keeping you generally cooler.
An additional benefit is that it can double up us an aero helmet as it comes with a hard shell which fits over the vents. Not only does this make it more aerodynamic, it stops your head getting wet as well.
As if I needed anything else, there is a peak/visor which is really easy to clip on and take off. This is a huge plus for keeping the sun out of your eyes and is something normally only found on mountain bike helmets.
It’s great looking and doesn’t look too big when worn which many can, so no mushroom head for me!! It also comes in a range of colours from black and white to brighter colours to match your biking kit.
So, for a high end product, this one is tremendous value and to sum up the main benefits for me, they have to be its weight and the simplicity of its look and fit.
